Mercedes looks steadier, tidier and far less confused than it did a year ago

There is a useful kind of progress in Formula 1 that does not scream for attention. Mercedes currently seems to be living in that space. The car may not be setting the loudest benchmarks, but it looks more settled, the feedback sounds clearer and the engineering direction appears more coherent.

That coherence matters because Mercedes spent too long fighting uncertainty. When a team is unsure what its car wants, every development path becomes more expensive and every weekend becomes harder to read. A steadier foundation changes all of that.

The next question is whether that improved structure can produce a meaningful step in outright pace. For now, though, Mercedes at least looks like a team solving the correct problems.
