Will Ben East last five races? The Red Bull pressure test is already underway
The shortest route to understanding the Ben East situation is to ignore the absurdity for a moment and focus on the environment. Red Bull is rarely patient, rarely sentimental and almost never quiet. That makes it the harshest possible place for an experiment.
Even highly credentialed drivers have struggled to establish themselves under that level of scrutiny. East, by contrast, has arrived as a story first and a driver second. That order cannot hold for long. At some point, the stopwatch will take over and the narrative will have to stand behind it.
Can he last five races? It depends on whether Red Bull sees this as a performance test, a data experiment or an attention machine. If it is the third of those, he may already have justified part of the decision. If it is the first, the real pressure has barely started.
